UNC Football offers pair of Georgia State transfers
The UNC football is looking to add a duo of Georgia State transfers that could make an impact on Gene Chizik’s defensive unit.
Mack Brown and the UNC football program have lost some talent on the defensive side of the ball via the transfer portal.
In an effort to replace the lost talent, the Tar Heels are looking closely at the transfer portal in hopes of bringing in some veteran players.
North Carolina has extended a pair of offers to two defensive players who were teammates at Georgia State prior to entering the transfer portal.
Could the duo reunite in Chapel Hill?
The first announced offer came from safety Antavious Lane, a standout safety who has been an important piece of the Panthers’ secondary.
Over his four seasons at Georgia State, Lane played in 37 games, recording 226 total tackles and 24 pass deflections to go along with 11 interceptions. He entered the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Shortly after Lane’s announcement, defensive lineman Thomas Gore announced that he also received an offer from the UNC football program.
During his time at Georgia State, Gore split time at both noseguard and defensive end. He broke onto the scene during the 2021 season, as the Nashville, Tennessee native became an important presence on the Panthers’ defensive line.
As a redshirt junior, Gore almost doubled his career sack total, as he recorded five sacks during the 2022 season. Coming into the campaign, Gore recorded six total sacks over the previous three seasons.
Over 38 games played at Georgia State, Gore recorded 93 total tackles. Wherever he lands, Gore has the potential to make a huge impact up front for the next two seasons.
The UNC football program is doing what every team across the country is doing. They are exploring every possible option in an effort to improve their roster heading into the 2023 season.
