The UNC basketball program will face an old non-conference foe, as they’ll take on The Citadel in Chapel Hill on Tuesday night.

After taking care of business against Georgia Tech over the weekend, the UNC basketball program will look to continue its success as they host The Citadel in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

The Tar Heels snapped a four-game losing streak with their victory over the Yellow Jackets, and look to continue the winning ways. This contest will also renew a matchup between teams with a past history, as this will be the Bulldogs’ first trip to Chapel Hill since 1991.

For North Carolina, they’ll look to build some momentum as they prepare to head to New York City over the weekend.

Key to Victory for North Carolina

Citadel’s best player is Stephen Clark, a 6-foot-8 forward who leads the team in both scoring and rebounding.

Look for the Tar Heels to give the defensive assignment to none other than Leaky Black.

If Black can lockdown Clark, the likes of Caleb Love and Seth Trimble will be tasked with slowing down Austin Ash, the Bulldogs’ other top-scoring threat.

Something to Watch For

Junior guard Caleb Love struggled offensively against Georgia Tech, as he made just four of his 12 shot attempts from the floor.

At the end of the first half, Love was benched in favor of Seth Trimble, who was instrumental in helping the Tar Heels make a strong run toward a big halftime lead.

We know how talented Love is and how important he is to this team’s success, but it’s safe to say that the Tar Heels need Love to take quality shots while also doing better at handling the basketball.

For a player who sees a ton of playing time, the Tar Heels need him to be effective. Love simply needs to play within the system, as forcing shots will not get him back on track. Instead, if the Tar Heels can take advantage of the post, it will open up opportunities for both Love and fellow guard RJ Davis.

Last Meeting

When these two teams last met, Hubert Davis was a player on the UNC basketball team.

The Tar Heels came away with a convincing 97-58 victory, as Davis led all scorers with 16 points.
