Behind their strongest scoring output of the early season, the UNC women’s basketball program defeated Wofford in dominating fashion on Sunday afternoon.

It was a great Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill for the UNC women’s basketball program, as they put together arguably their best overall offensive performance of the season en route to a convincing victory over non-conference foe Wofford.

After leading by just three through one-quarter of play, the Tar Heels took over the game in the second quarter.

A strong 12-0 run helped guide Courtney Banghart’s team to a 17-point lead at the half. Throughout the second half, North Carolina continued to pull away, as they led by as many as 41 points.

Alyssa Ustby was a force to be reckoned with, especially in the first half. The junior recorded her fourth double-double of the season, and did so before the first half came to an end! She finished the contest with 17 points to go along with 12 rebounds.

The combination of Kennedy Todd-Williams and Eva Hodgson also had great offensive performances against the Terriers.

Todd-Williams tied a career-high with 20 points, as she connected on six of her 12 shot attempts from the floor. Hodgson was absolutely lights out from three-point land, as she connected on five of her six attempts on her way to scoring 20 points of her own.

As a team, the Tar Heels connected on 12 three-pointers, which is a season-high. Their 99 points are the most a UNC women’s basketball team has scored in the last calendar year since December 12, 2021, against UNC Asheville.

You have to give credit to North Carolina’s bench, as they received strong outings from a handful of their reserves. Freshman guard Paulina Paris scored eight points over 18 minutes of action, while the likes of Destiny Adams (10 points, seven rebounds) and Teonni Key (five points, six rebounds) used their size and athleticism to their advantage.

North Carolina absolutely dominated the glass, as they outrebounded Wofford 57-21. The Terriers came in with a reputation for shooting the ball well from beyond the arc, but give the Tar Heels a ton of credit for holding them to just 37 percent from three, including 30 percent over the final 20 minutes of play.

Don’t be fooled by the score: this is a very good Wofford team. In this one, the Tar Heels were simply the better team.

Although they would have loved to have broken the century mark, you’d have to think that the UNC women’s basketball team is pleased with their performance in this non-conference tilt. They’ll look to build off this as they prepare to host South Carolina- Upstate on Friday evening.
