With his double-digit rebounding performance against Georgia Tech, Armando Bacot tied a UNC basketball program rebounding record.

After a one-game absence, Armando Bacot returned to the court in a big way on Saturday afternoon.

The UNC basketball star big man recorded yet another double-double, as he scored 21 points and recorded 13 rebounds.

Of course, the double-double is something that seems to define Bacot’s career in Chapel Hill, but the rebounding portion took the limelight in this particular outing.

With his 10+ rebounds, Bacot tied the legendary Billy Cunningham for the most double-figure rebounding games in UNC basketball history. This record, which Cunningham set 57 years ago, will be in major jeopardy over the Tar Heels’ next couple of games, as Bacot will almost assuredly surpass it.

At this point, it’s a matter of when Bacot will be in sole possession of this record. In a world where we see plenty of fifth-year seniors and graduate transfers, Bacot’s record will not need an asterisk, as he’s tied the record (and will break it) during his true senior season in Chapel Hill.

This is just another reminder of what a tremendous career Armando Bacot has put together as a member of the UNC basketball program. As the season progresses, we’ll hear plenty about the Tar Heels big man, as he’ll challenge to own various North Carolina basketball records, including the program’s all-time leading rebounder, before his time in Chapel Hill comes to an end.

Bacot’s first crack at taking over sole possession of this record will come on Tuesday night, as the UNC basketball program will host The Citadel at the Dean Smith Center.
