UNC Football: Josh Downs declares for NFL Draft
As expected, UNC football standout wide receiver Josh Downs will be opting out of the Holiday Bowl, as he’ll enter the NFL Draft.
On Friday, UNC football standout wide receiver Josh Downs made the announcement that we were all expecting from him.
Downs will forgo the upcoming Holiday Bowl, as he’ll be entering the upcoming NFL Draft.
The Suwanee, Georgia native originally arrived to Chapel Hill as a four-star recruit, and will leave as one of the best wide receivers in program history.
After not playing much as a freshman, Downs burst onto the scene as a sophomore, developing into one of the best wide receivers in the entire country.
During his sophomore season, Downs hauled in 101 passes from quarterback Sam Howell for 1,335 yards and eight scores. He earned First-Team All-ACC honors for his standout season.
With all attention surrounding him as a junior, Downs still was able to make a major impact on the Tar Heels offense. Working with redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye, Downs recorded 94 receptions for 1,029 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 10 games as he missed time due to injury.
The two-time First-Team All-ACC selection leaves Chapel Hill with the third-most receptions in UNC football history. He’s also just one of two players in team history to record two 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
At this point, Downs is expected to be one of the top wide receivers off the board, as he’s projected as either a first or second-round pick.
From what we’ve seen from his time in Chapel Hill, an NFL team is about to add an explosive playmaker to their offense for the foreseeable future.
Best of luck to Josh Downs as he embarks on his professional career!
