The UNC football program continues to lose defensive players, as four-star Class of 2023 prospect Kaveion Keys has decommitted.

Since the transfer portal opened for college football athletes, the UNC football program has had its fair share of defensive players enter to explore other opportunities.

Now, the Tar Heels will face losing yet another player, as one of their 2023 recruits has decommitted from the program.

On social media, four-star linebacker Kaveion Keys announced his decision to re-open his recruitment. This decision comes just three months after Keys originally committed to the UNC football program.

Penn State seems to be the team to keep an eye out for in Keys’ recruitment, as two Crystal Ball predictions have already been made in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Regarded as one of the top players in the state of Virginia, this is a big loss for the Tar Heels’ “Jordan Year” recruiting class. As Keys explores other opportunities, Mack Brown and his staff will look to fill the void either by adding additional recruits or finding potential options via the transfer portal.

With the announcement, North Carolina now has 17 commitments for its 2023 recruiting class. The UNC football program now ranks 25th in the latest 247Sports recruiting rankings.

From the transfer portal to decommitments, we haven’t had much news on the defensive side of the football for the UNC football program.
