Which UNC football players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal? The Keeping It Heel team is here to provide the latest news and updates.
The transfer portal has already been chaotic, as college football players from across the country are looking for new homes.
For Mack Brown and the UNC football program, they’ve already had multiple players enter the portal. We’re here to provide you with the latest news and updates regarding each former Tar Heel who has elected to take their talent elsewhere.
Keeshawn Silver- Defensive Lineman
The former five-star prospect appeared in just six total games for the UNC football program over his two years on campus, recording four total tackles.
North Carolina DE Keeshawn Silver has entered the transfer portal, @247SportsPortal has learned. Silver was a five-star prospect in the 2021 class, ranking as the No. 31 overall player that cycle. https://t.co/jEf4enoWvD

Injuries played a big part in Silver’s time as a Tar Heel. He was mainly used in goal-line packages when he was available and healthy enough to compete.

Ladaeson DeAndre Hollins- Defensive Back
Hollins will be transferring as a graduate transfer.
As a fifth-year senior, Hollins was mostly a special teams player for the UNC football program. After committing to Larry Fedora as part of the Class of 2018, Hollins saw the bulk of his playing time during his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons.
In 2022, Hollins logged 12 total snaps on defense as a reserve defensive back and 151 total snaps for the season.
UPDATE: Hollins has decided to withdraw his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal and has decided to spend his graduate season with the UNC Football Program.
Chris Collins- Defensive Lineman
Collins will have one season of college eligibility remaining.
Dontae Balfour- Defensive Back
Balfour started for the Tar Heels to begin the season, as he played a significant amount of snaps in the team’s season opener against Florida A&M.
However, that would be the last we saw of him on the defensive side of the ball.
The Starke, Florida native did not play defense for the remainder of the season, as he was limited to just two games as a special teams player.

Now, Balfour will look for another opportunity elsewhere.
Jonathan Kim- Kicker
Jonathan Kim got the transfer portal action going, as he elected to enter after losing the kicking job to Noah Burnette.
After arriving as a walk-on player, Kim earned a scholarship with the team, as he handled kickoff duties for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Having been once again allocated to kickoff duties, Kim decided to transfer on November 28, as he wanted to save a year of eligibility moving forward.

At the jack position, Collins saw a good amount of playing time during the 2022 season, logging 469 total snaps of action. He recorded 20 tackles, 0.5 tackles for a loss, and one quarterback hurry, and was a steady contributor during his time in Chapel Hill.
Jahlil Taylor- Defensive Lineman
As another graduate transfer on the defensive side of the ball, Jahlil Taylor joins Collins as lineman who have decided to leave the program.
After working back from injury, Taylor didn’t see much action for the Tar Heels this season, as he’s served as a reserve defensive lineman for most of his UNC football career.
Kendall Karr- Tight End
Injuries simply derailed Karr’s time in Chapel Hill, as the former three-star prospect was unable to carve a role in the Tar Heels’ offense.
As the team’s fourth-string tight end, Karr played just 22 snaps on the offensive side of the ball this season, while also seeing the field 30 times on special teams occasions.
Cam’Ron Kelly- Defensive Back
Kelly wasn’t originally supposed to come to Chapel Hill, but a last-minute decision to transfer from Auburn landed him in Carolina Blue.
Over his Tar Heel career, Kelly recorded 180 tackles to go along with five interceptions. His game-sealing pick against Wake Forest will always be remembered, as it helped secure the ACC Coastal Division title.
Please respect my decision to weigh out my options.

Tymir Brown- Cornerback
Brown struggled to see the field, as he did not make an appearance for the UNC football program during the 2022 season. The former three-star prospect was limited to just three games during his true freshman season, as he’ll look for an opportunity to earn more playing time elsewhere.
Tony Grimes- Cornerback
