The UNC football program will be losing yet another player to the transfer portal, as RaRa Dillworth became the latest to announce his future intentions.

RaRa Dillworth was one of the UNC football program’s biggest additions to their 2021 recruiting class.

The then four-star prospect chose the Tar Heels over Alabama and was expected to make a major impact on the team’s defensive unit.

Over his two seasons in Chapel Hill, Dillworth was mostly a backup linebacker and a special teams player. As a true freshman in 2021, Dillworth appeared in 12 games, finishing with six tackles and one TFL. He played 216 snaps during his sophomore season, recording 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one sack.

Heading into his junior season, many expected his role to expand. However, it doesn’t look like he’ll be around for that to happen.

On Twitter, Dillworth announced that he’ll be entering the transfer portal. He becomes the latest Tar Heel to do so, following quarterback Jacolby Criswell’s lead from earlier in the day.

This is a big loss for the Tar Heels, as not only was he a big-time recruit but was also in line to make a major impact moving forward.

Unfortunately, this is the impact of the current transfer rules, as student-athletes have the chance to explore other opportunities. For a player like Dillworth, he is probably looking for a situation in which he can earn more playing time, as he aspires to play at the next level once his collegiate career comes to an end.

Wherever he lands, Dillworth will have two years of college eligibility remaining. For the Tar Heels, they’ll now have to look for options to help fill the void at the linebacker position.
