UNC Football lost the ACC Championship game to Clemson last night 39-10 but what was said by Drake Maye after the game might be the most important takeaway from the game.

Charlotte – It was a tough night for the UNC Football program. What started with two defense stops and an early 7-0 lead, quickly turned to a number of miscues and a 39-10 loss to Clemson. Clemson looked the part of a team that is in the College Football Playoff hunt every year. UNC Football looked like a team that is still trying to put it together.

There have been rumors starting to circulate that Coach Mack Brown’s team could see a number of players enter the transfer portal. The one name that concerned most fans was that of Freshman quarterback Drake Maye. Maye had a tough night but for much of the season was an outside favorite in Heisman conversations.

According to Inside Carolina on Twitter, Maye intends to return to UNC Football next season.

For the game, Maye was 26 of 42 for 268 yards, two interceptions, and no touchdowns. For the season the Huntersville native has accumulated 4,115 yards, 35 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions. His leadership in the pocket is a large reason why the Tar Heels were even playing in Charlotte last night.

He was recognized this week for his achievements this season by being named the ACC Player of The Year.

The coming days and weeks will likely begin to paint the picture of exactly who will surround Maye when he returns next season. Knowing that the quarterback position will be good hands certainly helps.

It is well documented how the Maye father and sons have had tremendous success at the collegiate level. We will never forget the legend of Luke Maye. It’s great to hear that his brother Drake will return to continue his legacy for the Tar Heels next season too.
