In the first half against Clemson, UNC football standout Josh Downs passed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the second consecutive season.

What do Josh Downs and Dyami Brown have in common?

Of course, they both wore the Carolina Blue for the UNC football program, but the connection between the two standout wide receivers got even stronger on Saturday night.

With his 77 first-half receiving yards in the ACC Championship game against Clemson, Downs amassed the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the second consecutive season. He becomes the first ACC wideout since Brown (2019 and 2020) to accomplish the feat.

Even though he was forced to miss some game action due to injury, Downs was still able to accomplish this goal, one that many college receivers would dream about even doing once. He continued to be a focal point in the Tar Heels offense, even with a change at the quarterback position.

It didn’t take long for redshirt freshman Drake Maye to connect with his top target, as Downs found the endzone 11 times so far this season. The Suwanee, Georgia native only found the endzone eight times a season ago, even though he had more catches to work with.

Downs has put himself in a position to be regarded as one of the top wide receivers in the country and should draw a ton of attention from NFL scouts. Fans of the UNC football program should enjoy watching him play for the Tar Heels while they can, as this may be one of the last opportunities we get to do so.
