After two big top-25 victories in the Phil Knight Invitational, the UNC women’s basketball program has once again moved up in the AP Top-25 poll.

The UNC women’s basketball program is moving on up!

After winning the Phil Knight Invitational this weekend, Courtney Banghart and the Tar Heels have once again moved up in the most recent AP Top-25 rankings.

Just a week after cracking the top 10 at No. 8, North Carolina is now ranked as the No. 6 team in the country.

This marks the Tar Heels’ highest ranking since the week of December 15, 2014, when they were also No. 6 in the country.

Not only did North Carolina move up in the rankings, but they are the highest-ranked team among the five ACC teams on the list. The Tar Heels jumped past Notre Dame, who stayed at No. 7 on the list to take over as the top-ranked team in the poll.

Oregon, who lost to North Carolina in the PKI semifinals, dropped just one spot, while Iowa State, who blew a 17-point lead in the tournament finals, fell three spots to No. 8.

Although this weekend was nice, the schedule doesn’t get any easier for the UNC women’s basketball program. Their next contest comes in the final edition of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, as they’ll travel to Bloomington to take on No. 5 ranked Indiana on Thursday night.

It’s very exciting times in Chapel Hill, as the Tar Heels are quickly soaring back to national relevance. This group has shown that they are resilient, and have what it takes to compete with the top teams in the country.

A win at Indiana would go a long way in helping them move up even higher on the list.
