Even though there were plenty of shake-ups in the AP Top 25 poll, the UNC basketball program maintained the top spot for the third straight week.

The latest AP Top 25 men’s college basketball poll is out, as the UNC basketball program retains the top spot on the list.

North Carolina earned 47 of the 63 first-place votes in this week’s poll. Even though there was plenty of movement in the rankings, Hubert Davis’ team remains as No. 1 as they enter the week with a 4-0 record.

Virginia and Texas made the biggest jumps, as the Cavaliers jumped 11 spots to No. 5 while the Longhorns moved up seven spots to No. 4. Kentucky and UCLA were the two programs that dropped the most, as they both are 11 spots lower than they were a week prior.

This will be a challenging week for the Tar Heels, as they’ll be making their way to Portland, Oregon for the Phil Knight Invitational. After matching up with Portland in the opener, North Carolina will see either Iowa State or Villanova the following day, depending on the outcomes.

The UNC basketball program has worked its way through its early-season four-game homestand, as they are coming off arguably their best performance of the season thus far against James Madison. For the Tar Heels, they will look to continue their success, as they hit the road for their first true road test of the 2022-2023 campaign.

Can the Tar Heels continue to hold onto the top spot in the polls? We’ll have to wait and see.
