UNC Basketball Trio named to Wooden Award Watch List
The UNC basketball program is just one of three schools in the entire country to have three players on this year’s Wooden Award watch list.
Every year, the Wooden Award is given to the national player of the year throughout college basketball.
On November 16, the 50 student-athletes who are early front-runners for the most prestigious honor in college basketball were announced, as a trio of UNC basketball standouts made the list.
To no surprise, Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, and Caleb Love represent the Tar Heels on this year’s initial list. The Tar Heels are one of just three schools in the entire country to have three players on the list, as Kentucky and Duke are also represented by a trio of student-athletes.
The ACC is well-represented on the list, as 10 players from the conference were selected. North Carolina and Duke represent 60 percent of the conference’s selections, while the Miami Hurricanes also had multiple players that made the list.
With his senior season underway, Bacot came into the year with very high expectations. He received various preseason honors and is widely considered a first-team All-American talent.
Love and Davis begin their junior seasons looking to lead the Tar Heels back to the national championship game. Both players saw drastic improvements during their sophomore campaigns and could be in line for an even bigger jump in production this season.
Expectations are very high for the current No. 1 ranked team in the country, as the majority of the roster returned in hopes of earning some redemption. The UNC basketball trio is well-deserving of this recognition, as they have earned their way into consideration among the nation’s top talents.
