The UNC women’s basketball program rode a 32-1 first-quarter lead en route to a dominant victory over South Carolina State.

Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program took over control of the game from the onset, as they cruised to a 93-25 victory over South Carolina State on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tar Heels were without star Deja Kelly, who was held out as the team is being cautious with a recent ankle injury that she suffered. Even without Kelly, North Carolina got some major contributions from others, including Destiny Adams and Teonni Key.

Making her first start of the season, Adams led all scorers with a career-high 23 points. Over her 21 minutes of action, Adams knocked down 10 of her 14 shots while recording eight rebounds.

In her UNC women’s basketball debut, Key showed why everyone around the program was excited for her to take the floor. She put together a very strong first half en route to a 13-point, seven-rebound performance in 19 minutes of action.

The Tar Heels had six players in double-figures, including junior Alyssa Ustby, who recorded yet another double-double. Kennedy Todd-Williams (13 points), Anya Poole (11 points) and Eva Hodgson (10 points) all provided steady contributions toward the victory.

After a convincing victory on Wednesday morning, the UNC women’s basketball program will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to take on James Madison. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
