UNC Football: Drake Maye drawing tons of early NFL attention
Offensive coordinator Phil Longo confirmed that UNC football standout Drake Maye is already drawing a ton of interest from NFL teams.
Drake Maye has been one of the major storylines throughout college football.
The redshirt freshman has emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the country, as he’s played a major role in leading the UNC football program to the ACC Coastal Division title.
Even though he’s not NFL Draft eligible for another year, NFL scouts have started to focus their attention on the Tar Heels signal-caller.
While speaking to reporters, offensive coordinator Phil Longo confirmed that NFL teams are already salivating at the possibility of adding Maye to their future roster. Longo stated that NFL scouts are present every day to watch the Tar Heels practice, and added that they all seem to agree that Maye is destined to be a first-round pick next year.
This season, Maye has completed 70% of his passes for 3,412 yards and 34 touchdowns. He has protected the ball well, as he’s only thrown a total of three interceptions over his 361 attempts.
He’s also been a lethal weapon on the ground, as he’s rushed for 548 yards and an additional five scores.
Along with his early collegiate success, Maye possesses the qualities that NFL scouts look for. He has the prototypical size of a quarterback and has above-average arm talent and athleticism that make him simply a force to be reckoned with.
Maye still has some unfinished business to take care of, as he’s focused on leading the UNC football program to an ACC Championship. Scouts will have to wait a year for Maye to become available, but it’s safe to say they’ll be keeping a close eye on him throughout the remainder of his time in Chapel Hill.
