During the UNC football program’s victory over Virginia, redshirt freshman Drake Maye joined some elite Tar Heel company with his latest achievement.

It has certainly been a season to remember for Drake Maye.

The UNC football program’s redshirt freshman quarterback has been phenomenal in his first year as the team’s starter, as he’s played a vital role in the Tar Heels’ 8-1 start to the season.

Maye already has NFL scouts drooling over his potential, as he continues to light up the scoreboard each and every week.

On Saturday, Maye made some UNC football single-season history, joining some very elite company with his latest achievement.

With his two touchdown passes against the Cavaliers, Maye now leads the country with 31 total on the season. He also became just the third quarterback in UNC football history to throw for 30 or more touchdowns in a single season.

We’re sure you’ve heard of the other two players on the list. Mitch Trubisky became the first Tar Heel to accomplish the feat back in 2016, and Sam Howell followed it up with back-to-back seasons of 30+ touchdown passes.

Now, you can officially add Drake Maye to the list.

The country is starting to take notice of Maye’s strong play, as he’s considered among the best quarterbacks in all of college football. If he continues this strong play over the final few weeks of the season, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see him among the finalists for the annual Heisman Trophy award.
