On Saturday afternoon, the head coach of the UNC football program accomplished something that he hasn’t been able to do prior.

The UNC football program picked up another ACC victory on Saturday afternoon, as they battled back from a halftime deficit to defeat Virginia on the road.

For the program, it puts them one victory away from clinching the Coastal Division title. Although this is the main goal for the team, the win was also significant for the team’s legendary head coach.

Mack Brown was able to accomplish something that he’s never been able to before: win a game in Charlottesville.

In six prior contests, Brown and the Tar Heels did not pick up a victory in Virginia during either of his two stints with the program. Brown suffered losses in Charlottesville in 1989, 1991, 1993, 1994, and 1996, with his latest road loss against the Cavaliers coming in 2020 when he returned back to lead the UNC football program once again.

Brown is also closing in on another milestone, as he’s just two wins away from 100 in his career at North Carolina. Reaching that milestone would also give him 275 total coaching career victories on his resume.

Even though he’s more focused on the team’s success, you’d have to imagine that this win is one that feels a little more important to the long-time head coach. It must’ve been a nice trip back to Chapel Hill knowing that he finally found a way to secure a victory in Charlottesville, a place that hasn’t been very kind to him in the past.

With that settled, the focus for Brown will shift to the Tar Heels’ next opponent, a potential top-25 battle on the road against Wake Forest.
