The UNC football program had two of its key players suffer injuries during the first quarter of their ACC matchup against Pittsburgh.

Through the first quarter of play against Pittsburgh, the injury bug has hit the UNC football program in a major way.

First, it was running back Caleb Hood, who appeared to have suffered a shoulder injury after catching a pass from redshirt freshman Drake Maye. After he was hit low by the incoming defender, it seems as if he landed awkwardly on it, as he was ruled out of the rest of the game shortly after.

Next, it was defensive standout Noah Taylor, who went down with a non-contact knee injury. While rushing the quarterback, Taylor went down and immediately grabbed his knee before hobbling off to the sideline.

Both sides of the football have been impacted by the injury bug, as both players are important pieces to the Tar Heels’ success. You never want to speculate regarding injuries, but with Hood being ruled out while Taylor was in noticeable pain after the non-contact injury, the concern is that both injuries could be serious in nature.

It would be very surprising to see Taylor return to this game, as the Tar Heels defense will have to step up in his absence. We’ll have to wait and see how severe the injuries are for both players moving forward.
