Heading into his junior season, UNC basketball standout Caleb Love is regarded as one of the top point guards in the entire country.

On Monday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced their list of 20 watch-list candidates for the annual Bob Cousy Award.

The award, which is named in honor of the former Boston Celtic and Class of 1971 Hall of Famer, recognizes the top point guard in Division I men’s college basketball. Heading into the 2022-2023 season, one UNC basketball standout made his way onto the initial list.

Junior guard Caleb Love is among the 20 candidates on the preseason list. It’s important to note that players can work their way on or off the list at any given point throughout the season.

Love is well-deserving of the recognition, as he’s expected to play a vital role for Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels this season. The St. Louis, Missouri native is coming off a season in which he improved his scoring, field goal percentage, rebounds, and assists per contest, and looks to make an even bigger jump during the 2022-2023 campaign.

With redemption on their minds, Love and the UNC basketball team look to finish what they started a season ago by capturing another national championship for the historic program.

Here are the players who have been named to the Bob Cousy Award Watch List alongside Love:

Jahvon Quinerly (Alabama)
Kerr Kriisa (Arizona)
Wendell Green Jr. (Auburn)
Isaiah Stevens (Colorado State)
Ryan Nembhard (Creighton)
Antoine Davis (Detroit Mercy)
Jeremy Roach (Duke)
Sahvir Wheeler (Kentucky)
Darius McGhee (Liberty)
Kendric Davis (Memphis)
Caleb Love (North Carolina)
Grant Sherfield (Oklahoma)
Max Abmas (Oral Roberts)
Will Richardson (Oregon)
Yuri Collins (St. Louis)
Mike Miles Jr. (TCU)
Tyrese Hunter (Texas)
Jordan Walker (UAB)
Tyger Campbell (UCLA)
Kihei Clark (Virginia)

If Love ends up winning the award, he would be the first Tar Heel to do so since Kendall Marshall was the recipient back in 2012. Given how he ended last season, it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see Love make a push to be a strong contender for this award when it’s all said and done.
