The UNC football program received some bad news, as the college career of defensive tackle Ray Vohasek has abruptly come to an end.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to see Ray Vohasek suit up for the UNC football program anymore.

On Tuesday morning, head coach Mack Brown announced that Vohasek will miss the remainder of the 2022 season due to an upper-body injury. As a graduate student, Vohasek will not have any college eligibility remaining, meaning that his career with the Tar Heels has abruptly come to an end.

The McHenry, Illinois native will need surgery to repair the injury, but Brown says that he’ll stick around to assist the team while he ultimately prepares for the NFL Draft.

Needless to say, the Tar Heels head coach is devastated for one of his team’s defensive leaders.

"“Very disappointed for Ray, he’s one of our best players and a great young guy. He’s such a great player and a tremendous leader. That’s a tough one for a senior that came back to help his team and have a chance to play in the NFL.”"

As a Tar Heel, Vohasek appeared in 41 games, making 29 starts. A two-time All-ACC Honorable Mention selection, Vohasek recorded 96 tackles and 5.5 sacks over his career with the UNC football program.

The news is definitely disappointing, as this will be a big loss for the UNC football program. Although he’ll be sidelined, we still expect Vohasek’s veteran leadership to play a role for this team down the stretch.

On behalf of the Keeping It Heel team, we wish Ray Vohasek the best of luck in his future endeavors.
