After suffering a season-ending injury during the preseason, UNC football standout British Brooks will return to Chapel Hill for another season.

During the preseason, British Brooks suffered a season-ending injury that left questions as to whether or not he would suit up for the UNC football program ever again.

In his press conference on Monday, head coach Mack Brown put the question to rest.

Brown announced that Brooks is aiming to return to the program next season. He will have one season of eligibility upon returning to the field.

The Gastonia, North Carolina native first made his presence known by being a special teams standout. For two consecutive seasons, the former walk-on was the Special Teams MVP while serving as the unit’s captain.

Before suffering the injury, Brooks was slated to be the team’s starting running back, a role he earned with a superb finish to the 2021 season. He finished the year with three games of 70 or more rushing yards, including a 124-yard performance against then-ranked No. 20 NC State on the road.

His intended return is good news for the UNC football program, as they can benefit from having him back in the mix. Not only is he a veteran presence among the Tar Heels backfield, but his experience and leadership will also be a valuable asset to return once he’s healed and ready to return to the field.
