On ESPN College GameDay, anchor Rece Davis made a pretty bold statement regarding UNC football’s redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye.

Drake Maye has gotten off to a fantastic start to his UNC football career, as the redshirt freshman has been the focal point of one of the most efficient offenses in the entire country.

Even though he’s just a few games into his newly-earned starting quarterback role, ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis already has some high praise for Maye.

On Saturday morning’s episode, Davis called Maye the “best quarterback in the ACC.” This is a very notable compliment, given that the ACC features other top collegiate quarterbacks such as Sam Hartman, DJ Uiagalelei, and Devin Leary.

Based on his early success, Maye certainly deserves to be among the signal-callers in the conversation. With his multiple touchdown passes on Saturday afternoon, the Huntersville, North Carolina native has thrown for multiple scores in each of his first five college starts.

It’s without a doubt that Maye has been the Tar Heels’ best player, as without his early success, you could easily make the case that the UNC football program wouldn’t have gotten off to a 3-1 start to the season. Especially with the defensive struggles, North Carolina’s offensive success has been crucial, and Maye has been the one to spearhead the attack.

If he continues to play at this high level, Maye won’t also be considered one of the best quarterbacks in the conference but will be talked about as one of the top players at his position in the entire country.

Given what he’s shown us thus far, the future looks very bright for Drake Maye in Chapel Hill.
