With Hurricane Ian potentially impacting the North Carolina area this weekend, will Saturday’s UNC football game be played as scheduled?

There’s a possibility that Hurricane Ian will make an impact on the United States over the next few days, which has some sporting events up in the air as to whether they will be played as scheduled.

The UNC football program is scheduled to host Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill. As kickoff draws closer, the North Carolina Athletics Department is closely monitoring the weather situation for the area.

At the moment, the contest between the Tar Heels and Hokies is still scheduled to be played as previously planned.

On Tuesday, the North Carolina Athletics Department released the following statement regarding the matter:

"“Saturday’s football game between North Carolina and Virginia Tech at Kenan Stadium is still scheduled to be played, as planned. Carolina Athletics is working with University, local and state officials to closely monitor Hurricane Ian and its potential impact on Chapel Hill and the surrounding areas.”"

Of course, things could change, as there is still the potential of the game being rescheduled. At the current moment, the plan is for the game to be played on Saturday afternoon, pending any further weather updates that do come along before then.
