UNC Football: Drake Maye named ACC Rookie of the Week
Even with the UNC football program suffering a loss to Notre Dame, redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye received some weekly conference honors.
It was not an ideal return to the field for the UNC football program on Saturday afternoon, as they suffered a loss to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on their home turf.
However, redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye put together yet another strong outing, earning him ACC Rookie of the Week honors.

Maye completed 17 of 32 passes for 301 yards and five touchdowns. He also led the Tar Heels with 36 total rushing yards.
This marks the second time this season that Maye has earned the award, as he previously took home the honor after the Tar Heels Week 1 victory over Appalachian State. The UNC football program now has three ACC Rookie of the Week Award recipients during the early part of the 2022 season, as running back Omarion Hampton has also received the award.
Through his first four games as the Tar Heels’ starter, Maye has been outstanding. His 16 touchdown passes are tied for the most in the nation, as he continues to steadily lead the team’s offensive attack.
The Tar Heels certainly have their flaws, but Maye is definitely not one of them. His outstanding play has made the program’s 3-1 start possible, as he has simply embraced the challenge of being the team’s starter and has thrived in the role so far.
Maye and the UNC football program will look to get back on track, as they’ll host Virginia Tech at Kenan Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
