Just under two days since being released by the San Francisco 49ers, former UNC football standout Jeremiah Gemmel has found a new NFL home.
After signing with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent, former UNC football standout Jeremiah Gemmel found himself as a roster causality this week.
As the 49ers aimed to trim the roster, Gemmel was one of three players released by the organization on August 23. In his time with the team, the former Tar Heel recorded two tackles in his lone preseason appearance.
However, his time as a free agent didn’t last long, as he was able to find a new NFL home in just under two days.
We've signed LB Jeremiah Gemmel and designated LB Barrington Wade as waived/injured.

On Thursday, the Denver Broncos announced that they have signed Gemmel. In a corresponding move, the team designated linebacker Barrington Wade as a waived/injured player.
Although he found a new home, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he has a roster spot secured on the Broncos’ 53-man roster. With next Tuesday being the final set of cuts, the Newnan, Georgia native will have a few days, as well as one final preseason appearance, to prove that he belongs once the roster is officially in place.
One area where Gemmel could help the Broncos is on special teams. He’ll get a look at linebacker, but his way to stay on the roster may be to impress with the special teams unit over the next couple of days.
The clock is ticking as the final cuts draw near, but it’s safe to say that Gemmel is ready for the challenge of making the Broncos’ regular-season roster.
