Since de-committing from Purdue, Drayvn Gibbs-Lawhorn has heard from multiple teams, including none other than the UNC basketball program.

On August 3, Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn announced that he has de-committed from Purdue, thus re-opening his recruitment.

Gibbs-Lawhorn is a talented four-star combo guard from the Class of 2023. The Montverde, Florida native is rated by 247Sports Composite as the No. 7 overall player coming out of his home state, and is ranked No. 58 nationally in his graduating class.

The Montverde Academy standout recently spoke to Alex Karamanos of The Circuit, as he discussed the teams that he’s heard from since his recruitment reopened. One of those teams was the UNC basketball program, as the Tar Heels are among 9 schools that have expressed interest.

Some notable programs join North Carolina in the mix, as the likes of Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, and Gonzaga have all reached out over the last few weeks.

As his stock continues to rise, it makes sense why he decided to re-evaluate his options. It doesn’t appear as if Purdue is out of the mix, but there’s a possibility that one of the new contenders could swoop in to change his mind.

The Tar Heels currently only have one player committed to its “Jordan Year” recruiting class, as Hubert Davis and staff look to build around Simeon Wilcher. Adding a combo guard like Gibbs-Lawhorn would provide the UNC basketball program with another guard that has the skill set to play various roles on the basketball court.

Needless to say, add Dravyn Gibbs-Lawhorn to the list of “prospects to keep an eye on” as the Tar Heels continue to build up its upcoming recruiting class.
