The former UNC football standout is looking for a new home after being waived recently by the New York Giants organization.

As the New York Giants worked to trim their roster down, a former UNC football standout was among one of the early moves that the organization decided to make.

In a trio of roster moves, the Giants waived wide receiver Austin Proehl with an injury designation. The former Tar Heel appeared to suffer a leg injury during an early August training camp practice, forcing him to miss some crucial action.

Since entering the NFL as a seventh-round pick in 2018, Proehl has struggled to find a permanent home. He has been with the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Chargers, but has yet to appear in a regular season contest.

Over his career as a Tar Heel, Proehl recorded 91 receptions for 1,265 yards and five touchdowns, with his best season coming as a junior during the 2016 campaign (43 catches, 597 yards, and three touchdowns). He was limited to just six games as a senior, as you could make the case that his production would have surpassed his previous season if he was healthy throughout.

Proehl has been resilient in trying to find a permanent NFL home and will look for an opportunity elsewhere. The journeyman’s path continues, and we’ll have to wait and see where his next stop will be.
