His 2022 season may be over before it even started, but British Brooks will still look to make an impact on the UNC football program.

After emerging onto the scene at the end of the 2021 season, all signs pointed to British Brooks finally getting his chance at being the UNC football program’s main running back during the 2022 season.

Unfortunately, Brooks’ season ended before it even started, as the fifth-year senior suffered a lower-body injury in training camp.

Although he can’t help the Tar Heels by being a productive running back and special teams player, the program still expects him to make an impact on this year’s team.

Head coach Mack Brown told the media that Brooks will be serving as a student coach for the upcoming season. He will be focused on helping the running backs and special teams unit in his new role.

If you want anyone giving special teams advice, it definitely would be Brooks. After being the Tar Heels’ special teams captain in each of the last two seasons, Brooks was slated to fulfill the role again this year, as he’s known to be a standout performer in this aspect of the game.

With a lot of youth on the running back depth chart, Brooks can add some insight and expertise both on and off the field. He can provide tips on how players should handle their reps and film sessions, and can also give pointers on how to stay engaged even when not on the field.

Brooks worked his way up the depth chart and truly earned his opportunity to play. Although he won’t be suiting up for the UNC football program, he has the ability to have a great impact while helping out his teammates.

Even though he’d much rather be playing, it seems like Brooks is really embracing his new role early on!
