ACC Network Analyst had some very positive things to say about UNC football freshman running back Omarion Hampton.

The UNC football program has seen plenty of changes to its running back depth chart over the last few seasons.

After enjoying the dynamic duo of Javonte Williams and Michael Carter for multiple seasons, Mack Brown and company went into last season unknown of what to expect from the new-look backfield.

Fortunately, Ty Chandler was the impact transfer the program hoped he’d be, and a late-season surge from British Brooks added a very nice boost to the Tar Heels’ offense.

Heading into the 2022 season, there are even more questions surrounding the team’s running back options.

Brooks, who was slated to take on a bigger role, has suffered a season-ending injury, while the rest of the depth chart lacks college experience.

As the Tar Heels look for the right back (or backs), this ACC Network analyst believes that one of the team’s incoming freshmen could be the answer.

Eric Mac Lain had the opportunity to watch the UNC football program in early fall training camp and was impressed with Omarion Hampton. On a recent episode of his podcast, Gramlich & Mac Lain, the ACC Network analyst went on to say that this freshman is the real deal:

"“Omarion Hampton is the guy. He’s a true freshman. If you just Google, ‘UNC depth chart,’ he’s not even on it. So nobody knows about this kid. But he’s 6-foot-2, 225 pounds … and he’s a legit freak.”"

Hampton, who was ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 11 overall running back in his graduating class, could have an opportunity right away to see the field. He, along with fellow freshman George Pettaway, may end up forming a duo similar to the one we enjoyed when Williams and Carter were on campus.

The questions surrounding the UNC football program’s running back situation will carry on leading up to opening kickoff (and probably beyond that point as well). It will be interesting to see which backs take advantage of the opportunities that they will have on the field.
