The UNC football program added another member to its 2023 recruiting class, as three-star Joshua Horton has committed to the Tar Heels.

Heading up to his commitment date, all signs pointed three-star defensive lineman Joshua Horton to the UNC football program.

On Friday, Horton confirmed that the speculation was indeed correct.

The Fairburn, Georgia native becomes the latest member of the Tar Heels 2023 recruiting class, as he made his decision official via the above post on his personal Twitter account. He becomes the 15th player from the Class of 2023 to commit to Mack Brown and the Tar Heels.

Horton, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound defensive lineman, is considered by 247Sports Composite to be the No. 85 player coming out of the state of Georgia. His recruitment came down to three programs, as North Carolina beat out Auburn and UCF for his services.

Heading into his senior season, the now UNC football commit is coming off a monster season for Langston Hughes High School. He was credited with 81 tackles, eight quarterback hurries, and three sacks while playing a pivotal role in helping his team go 13-2 en route to a state championship game bid.

Horton’s addition now gives the Tar Heels five defensive linemen committed in their Class of 2023. With his commitment, the UNC football program has also moved up two spots to No. 26 in 247Sports Team Rankings for this respective class.

The Tar Heels were the last stop on Horton’s official visit list this summer, and they certainly made the most of their opportunity to be the final stop on his tour. Now, Horton will project to join the UNC football program’s defensive line unit once his high school career wraps up this fall.
