In an exclusive interview with The Circuit, four-star Class of 2023 prospect TJ Power discussed his thoughts on the UNC basketball program.

A few days ago, the UNC basketball program found themselves among the finalists in four-star forward TJ Power’s recruitment.

As the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native’s recruitment begins to heat up, the Tar Heels are making a push to land a commitment from Power, who is expected to announce his decision by mid to late September.

In a recent exclusive interview with Alex Karamanos of The Circuit, Power discussed his five finalists in-depth and had this to say about Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels.

"“Similar situation, I visited them for about a day after Peach Jam and me and Coach Davis hit it off. He is really easy to talk to and he is a really smart coach. Just the way he talks about different strategies that they used last year in just his one year of being a head coach. I just like the way that program is changing a little bit with his approach and having a lot of versatile bigs who can really shoot and stretch the floor, I think that would really work for me. Then being on the big stage at UNC and playing for a national championship like they did last year have how they have a good chance to do this year.”"

Right after Peach Jam concluded, Power wasted no time visiting both North Carolina and Duke. Although both Blue Bloods are relatively new contenders in this recruiting battle, the rising senior’s visits to both campuses helped place them among his five finalists.

Based on his recent comments, you can sense that Power believes he’d fit nicely into the system that Davis has implemented in his short time as the Tar Heels head coach. As a “stretch-four,” Power got to witness first-hand the impact Brady Manek had in his lone season in Chapel Hill, a role that could be enticing to him down the road given his similar skillset.

We’ll have to see how it plays out, but at this point, it’s encouraging to hear what Power has to say about the UNC basketball program.
