UNC Women’s Basketball: Alyssa Ustby invited to USA Basketball trials
The UNC women’s basketball program will be represented by Alyssa Ustby at the upcoming USA basketball trials in Miami.
Over the next few days, UNC women’s basketball standout Alyssa Ustby will be rather busy.
The rising junior is among 11 college basketball players to be invited to participate in the 2022 USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s U23 National Team trials. From August 5-8, Ustby will be competing for one of the team’s six roster spots.
If Ustby makes the cut, she’ll begin training camp on August 9. Just four days later, Team USA will compete at the fifth edition of the FIBA 3×3 Nations League, with play beginning in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic on August 13.
Ustby is coming off a sophomore season in which she earned second-team All-ACC honors. As a starter, the Rochester, Minnesota native averaged 12.9 points and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per game, helping lead the Tar Heels to the Sweet 16.
When asked about this opportunity for Ustby, UNC women’s head basketball coach Courtney Banghart believes that her overall style of play has value in this type of setting:
"“Alyssa is a rising star in women’s basketball as she has relentlessly to added layers to her game She plays hard on both sides of the ball and her scoring versatility and physicality will add tremendous value to the 3×3 game. She is so ready for this earned opportunity.”"
