UNC Football: Noah Taylor among top impactful ACC transfers
As he’ll spend his final college season with the UNC football program, Noah Taylor ranks among the top impactful ACC transfers heading into the 2022 season.
Gene Chizik will have a new weapon to work with as he re-takes over as the UNC football program’s defensive coordinator this fall.
After spending four seasons at Virginia, edge Noah Taylor decided to transfer to North Carolina to finish out his college career. Playing for the Tar Heels as a Graduate Student, the Silver Spring, Maryland native is considered to be one of the top impactful transfers in the ACC.
In a recent article for On3, Mike Huguenin projected Taylor as the No. 5 overall transfer in the entire conference. Here’s what Huguenin had to say about the talented edge rusher’s move to Chapel Hill:
"The skinny: Noah Taylor was a three-year starter for Virginia and has legit big-play ability. He had 13 sacks, 30 tackles for loss, 16 quarterback hurries, three interceptions and 10 pass breakups at UVa. (Worth noting: Taylor had a career-high 12 tackles in a loss to the Tar Heels last season.) UNC was ninth in the ACC in sacks and tackles for loss in 2021, so Taylor’s addition is big. New defensive coordinator Gene Chizik should be expected to put Taylor’s big-play ability to good use."
Not only does Taylor possess the experience that will be very valuable for the Tar Heels defense, but he also has the ability to make big plays at his position. As Huguenin noted, he put on a show against the UNC football program last season, as he recorded a career-best 12 tackles in Virginia’s loss to the Tar Heels.
North Carolina is not the only ACC school to receive a boost on defense via the transfer portal, as seven of Huguenin’s top 10 are featured on the defensive side of the ball. However, Taylor is ranked as the third-highest rated defensive transfer and should have a major impact for the UNC football program this upcoming season.
