The UNC basketball recruiting team is set to have one of their top targets from the Class of 2024 take an official visit to Chapel Hill in a few weeks.

After receiving an official offer from the UNC basketball recruiting team a few weeks back, four-star wing Drake Powell is set to visit Chapel Hill before the month of August ends.

According to David Sisk of Tar Heel Illustrated, Powell will be taking his official visit to the campus beginning on August 23. The news comes from Powell’s mother, who notified Sisk of the newly-made plans for this visit.

When they get him on campus, Hubert Davis and his staff hope that they can convince the in-state product to stay home. Currently, 247Sports Composite tabs Powell as the No. 58 player in the Class of 2024 and views him as the fifth-best prospect coming out of the state of North Carolina.

Powell is a player that caught now assistant coach Jeff Lebo’s eye well before he was on the Tar Heels coaching staff.

Lebo was serving as an assistant coach for West Carteret High School when the team advanced to the state playoffs. They would match up with Northwood High School, and Powell put on a performance that stuck with the now Tar Heels assistant coach.

When Lebo was added to Hubert Davis’ staff, he quickly began the pursuit of Powell. The 6-foot-5 wing was on campus multiple times over the last few months, and even received a call from Lebo on June 15, the first official day that juniors could receive calls directly from college coaches.

An official offer followed a few weeks later, and now an official visit is looming near for the talented wing prospect.
