The UNC women’s basketball team paired up with the UNC women’s soccer team recently for some summertime fun in Chapel Hill.

Yes, summer is a great time for college sports programs to get some necessary work in for their upcoming seasons.

However, it’s never a bad thing to find some time for these hard-working student-athletes to have some time during the summer months!

On Thursday night, the UNC women’s basketball program ended its night in a pretty unusual style. The UNC women’s soccer team paid a visit to Carmichael Arena for a little friendly competition between the two teams.

The two programs battled one another in a North Carolina athletics dodgeball competition. Women’s basketball head coach Courtney Banghart posted a photo of both programs together and stated that the final result ended in a tie.

Knowing how competitive collegiate athletes could be (especially these two teams!), it’s hard to believe that this matchup ended with no clear-cut winner!

This is not the first instance this summer where Banghart and the Tar Heels basketball team have spent some time with another UNC Athletics program. Earlier in the summer, they spent time with the university’s gymnastics team, as student-athletes from both programs tested their skills in the other involved sport.

If you want to see some footage for yourself, check out Alyssa Ustby’s official TikTok account. Over the last few weeks, the UNC women’s basketball standout has posted videos of herself being tested as both a gymnast as well as a soccer player.

The life of college student-athletes (and coaches as well) is certainly a grind to begin with. From every responsibility they carry, both on and off the court, it’s safe to say that these individuals don’t have a lot of free time in their schedules.

However, little events like these show that the coaches at the University of North Carolina get it. Amongst all the craziness of a regular day, there still can be time for these student-athletes to have fun while making memories that will certainly be remembered forever.
