The 6-foot-9 center earned the fifth offer in the 2024 class for the UNC basketball recruiting team, as they turn up the heat in their recruiting efforts.

The UNC basketball recruiting staff is making the most of their time at EYBL Peach Jam, catching a glimpse of multiple Tar Heel targets and commits on the amateur circuit.

Among those on the Tar Heels’ recruiting board is 2024 center James Brown, who impressed in Nike Meanstreets’ 68-52 win over Expressions Elite on Wednesday. The Chicago, Illinois native recorded 11 points and seven rebounds, shooting an efficient 5-6 from the floor.

Brown continued his consistent scoring at Peach Jam, scoring in double digits for the third consecutive game.

Taking in the four-star recruit’s performance was North Carolina assistant coach Sean May, the lead recruiter in the pursuit of Brown. The Tar Heels’ coaching staff extended an offer to Brown at the end of June, joining a recruitment that has ramped up during the summer circuit.

The St. Rita High School standout was every bit as advertised during his sophomore campaign, averaging 13.5 points on 67 percent shooting, while tallying 10 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.

Brown is currently rated as the No. 27 overall recruit in the class of 2024, a mere two spots from earning five-star status. He is rated as the No. 1 player in the state of Illinois and the fifth-best center in the country, according to 247 Sports.

With the North Carolina staff shifting their focus to the 2023 and 2024 classes, Brown is the lone center to receive an offer from the Tar Heels at this point in time. As the UNC basketball program looks to continue its tradition of successful big men, expect Sean May to play a pivotal role as they vie for Brown’s services.
