The UNC football recruiting team earned another big commitment, as Rico Walker announced that he will be taking his talents to Chapel Hill.

It’s official: Rico Walker is going to be a Tar Heel!

The UNC football recruiting team has kept yet another top in-state prospect home, as Walker announced his commitment to the Tar Heels during a ceremony at Hickory High on Monday afternoon. The four-star prospect chose North Carolina over the likes of Auburn, Florida, Maryland, and Tennessee.

Walker becomes North Carolina’s highest-ranked commitment in the Class of 2023. He currently ranks as the No. 6 prospect in the state of North Carolina and is viewed as the No. 24 overall edge rusher in his class, according to 247Sports Composite.

At the high school level, Walker has been a two-way player. Not only does he play linebacker, but he also has some experience at both tight end and wide receiver. It goes to show you just how athletic this future Tar Heel is.

Walker’s high school head coach, Russell Stone, recently spoke to 247Sports about his skillset

"“He’s a developing player and his potential is off the book. He’s a very long player. He’s fast. He’s a good athlete. He’s quick. He has great hands… He’s learning to play with a new pad level. He has really long arms; he’s going to be able to make plays up in the air that other people can’t reach.”"

With Walker’s commitment, the Tar Heels now have six in-state 2023 prospects committed to the program. Out of the six student-athletes, five are four-star level players.

This is another big addition for the UNC football recruiting team, as they now rank No. 21 on 247Sports updated team rankings. Mack Brown and his staff are hopeful that they’ll continue to rise up the ranks as they earn more commitments in hopefully the near future.
