After much of the recent attention has gone towards the Class of 2024, the UNC basketball recruiting team is back to working on the Class of 2023.

The recruitment of TJ Power began to pick up a ton of steam lately, and rightly so.

At the EYBL event in Kansas City this past weekend, Power put together some dominant performances. The Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native started the weekend’s festivities by recording a 33-point, 10-rebound, and six-assist performance on Friday night. Just a day later, Power put together an even more outstanding outing, as he recorded 41 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists.

Currently ranked as the top player out of the state of Massachusetts (according to 247Sports Composite), Power has earned three ‘blue blood’ offers over the last week. The latest came on Tuesday morning, as Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball recruiting team extended their official offer to the 6-foot-8 forward.

According to Power’s social media post, the scholarship offer came via a phone call from the Tar Heels head coach. North Carolina joins the list of 20+ other schools that have already offered the Worcester Academy standout.

You have to wonder if this move has anything to do with the latest GG Jackson speculation. From the surface, it feels as if this is a counter move as Davis and his staff look to bring in talent to fill the potential void that Jackson would leave if he decides to not hold true to his commitment to North Carolina.

On the other hand, you can point to how important the ‘stretch four’ is in Davis’ system and view this as an offer that would help the Tar Heels add another impact scorer at the position. Either way, Power makes a lot of sense for what the UNC basketball program is looking to do down the road.
