UNC Basketball: Cole Anthony discusses new teammate Paolo Banchero
What did former UNC basketball standout Cole Anthony have to say about his new teammate, former Duke star Paolo Banchero?
During the NBA Summer League, it’s very common to see players from around the league at the event to support their respective organizations.
Former UNC basketball standout Cole Anthony is no exception, as the former first-round pick has made the trip to Las Vegas to support the Orlando Magic youngsters.
During halftime of the Magic and Sacramento Kings contest on Saturday afternoon, the former Tar Heel made a guest appearance on the ESPN Broadcast. Of course, Anthony was asked about his new teammate, former Duke star Paolo Banchero, a player who Anthony says he’s been very impressed with.
After the Magic selected him with the No. 1 overall pick, Anthony wasted no time joking with his new teammate, as posted a throwback photo of Banchero.
Anthony joked that Banchero has grown up a ton since that photo was taken, and believes he’s going to be a really good NBA player.
"“He definitely grew. He’s about 250 [pounds] solid, so he definitely grew. He’s not no little boy no more. But man, that kid is so talented, he loves the game. I got the chance to actually get in the gym with him right after the draft and he loves it. He works hard and I think he’s got a really, really high ceiling. I think he’s gonna be really good.”"
Cassidy Hubbarth of ESPN capitalized on the perfect opportunity to ask Anthony about the North Carolina/Duke rivalry. Now teammates with both Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr., Anthony may be outnumbered but assured that both players know which team is superior in this rivalry.
"“Man, them Duke dudes know they don’t got nothing on us. Wendell [Carter Jr.] and Paolo both know that.”"
The Magic are putting together an impressive group of young talent, and are relying on both Anthony and Banchero to help the organization get back to being a true contender.
Of course, the rivalry will always be there, but now, the focus for both players is on helping the Magic win games at the NBA level.
