Carlie Littlefield is ready to begin her professional basketball career.

It was announced that Littlefield has signed a contract to play professional basketball in Belgium. The former UNC women’s basketball standout will join the Liège Panthers, a Belgium League team based in Liège, Belgium.

The initial hope was that Littlefield would have the option to return to North Carolina for another season. Unfortunately, the NCAA did not grant Ivy League athletes an additional season of eligibility to make up for the canceled COVID season, which forced Littlefield to pursue other opportunities.

In her lone season in Chapel Hill, the Des Moine, Iowa native made a tremendous impact on the program. As a team captain, Littlefield played a significant role in helping the Tar Heels advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2015. She started all 32 games, averaging 8.8 points and a team-best 2.7 assists per game.

Her decision to transfer to North Carolina was certainly impacted by the presence of head coach Courtney Banghart. While coaching at Princeton, Banghart helped recruit Littlefield to the Ivy League program, and once again reunited when the standout guard ultimately followed her coach to Chapel Hill.

Needless to say, Banghart is certainly excited about the opportunity her former point guard has to begin her professional career.

"“I first recruited Carlie out of Des Moines, Iowa, seven years ago. Watching her grow as a player on both ends of the ball and mature as an elite floor and locker room leader has been one of my greatest joys as a coach. You can always judge the value of a player by how many teams they’ve been on that win. Carlie is a champion, a relentless worker, and she’s been the floor general on every team that she’s been on.The Liège Panthers just got one of the best true point guards in the country. We will miss her tremendously, but bring on the live stream!”"

Just like coach Banghart, we’ll certainly be tuning into the live streams as well!
