As the Kansas City EYBL is underway, the UNC basketball recruiting team has been a visible presence as they watch some of the country’s top talents.

The Kansas City session of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) kicked off on Thursday, as some of the country’s top talent continues to showcase their skills in front of college coaches and professional scouts.

For the UNC basketball recruiting team, they did, in fact, spend some time watching the student-athletes who are already committed to the program. However, they had plenty of time to scope out the talent, as they also made time to get a good glimpse of some of the players that may be potential recruiting targets down the road.

According to Rivals David Sisk, the Tar Heels were “three-deep” to watch 2023 commits G.G. Jackson and Simeon Wilcher. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as Hubert Davis and his staff are keeping a close eye on players who are Chapel Hill bound in the future.

Along with the common names we’ve heard plenty about, Sisk mentioned a 2024 prospect that hasn’t really been talked about on the UNC basketball recruiting trail.

The Tar Heels spent some time watching four-star wing Drake Powell, 247Sports Composite’s No. 3 overall player coming out of the state of North Carolina. Powell has not been extended an offer from the Tar Heels at this point, but that could change in the near future.

Although the main focus at this point surrounds the Class of 2023, Davis and his staff are also putting an emphasis on the following graduating class. As the Nike EYBL weekend event continues on, it’s possible that more UNC basketball recruiting targets will be identified.
