Tyler Thompson becomes the latest player to commit to the UNC football program, as the Tar Heels’ Class of 2023 now features nine student-athletes.

Three commitments in a span of four days for the UNC football program.

Not too shabby!

Tyler Thompson announced on social media that he will commit to North Carolina. The three-star defensive end prospect chose the Tar Heels over the likes of Michigan, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Wake Forest, and West Virginia.

Currently, 247Sports Composite ranks Thompson as the No. 21 overall ranked player in the state of North Carolina. He is also viewed as the No. 54 overall defensive end in his graduating class.

Similar to the other two commitments the Tar Heels received this week, Thompson was on hand this weekend as the program hosted a group of 17 talented recruits for an official visit. After his visit, the Cary, North Carolina native decided that he preferred to stay close to home.

As he told Andrew Jones of Tar Heels Illustrated, his visit this weekend went a long way in convincing him that Chapel Hill was the right place for him:

"“With UNC with Coach Mack Brown, it feels like family right when I walked in. The facilities are insane and they have great academics, great support and a great coaching staff. It’s Jordan Brand so that’s always nice.”"

His decision to join the UNC football program should excite his current head coach, Sean Crocker, who was a starter for Mack Brown at North Carolina during the 1990s.

The Tar Heels continue to thrive on the Class of 2023 recruiting trail, as their class continues to grow by the day. It also goes to show that their big official visit weekend has been a success, as they’ve already earned commitments from three recruits that took part in the event.
