UNC women’s basketball incoming freshman Paulina Paris has earned another award to recognize her outstanding senior season for Saddle River Day High School.

As the lone incoming freshman, Paulina Paris has already made her way to Chapel Hill to join the UNC women’s basketball program.

Even though her high school career is officially behind her, the former Saddle River Day star continues to receive recognition for her outstanding senior season.

On Tuesday, June 28, the annual North Jersey Sports Award show was held at Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, New Jersey. For the first time since 2019, this event was able to be held in person, as the top student-athletes from Bergen and Passaic county are honored for their personal achievements in their respective sports.

Paris was named the recipient of this year’s Girls Basketball Player of the Year Award. Given her personal (and team’s success), it shouldn’t be a surprise that she is this year’s selection.

The Rebels, led by Paris, were considered one of the best teams in the entire state of New Jersey throughout the 2021-2022 season. Saddle River Day posted a 25-2 record while winning the Bergen County Tournament championship as well as the North Jersey, Non-Public B sectional championship.

Individually, Paris was a force to be reckoned with. She was one of the best scorers in the entire state, as she averaged 22.9 points per game while knocking down a team-high 80 3-pointers. For her efforts, the now Tar Heel guard earned various awards, including the NJIC Player of the Year.

Coach Courtney Banghart already has a deep backcourt heading into the 2022-2023 season, but the addition of Paris makes it even deeper. Given the talent she displayed during her high school career, Paris is in line to make a major impact on the UNC women’s basketball program over her time in Chapel Hill.
