Former UNC basketball coach Roy Williams is among this year’s inductees for the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

On June 27, the inductees for the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2022 were announced. This year, the organization will be electing 10 individuals for their excellence in their various sports-related occupations.

Among this year’s recipients is a very familiar face to the UNC Basketball program.

Former legendary head coach Roy Williams is one of the headliners of this year’s class, which will be honored at the annual induction ceremony on Oct. 2 at the Kansas Star Casino. Here’s a full list of this year’s recipients, courtesy of KWCH12:

Clint Bowyer (Former NASCAR Driver)
Kendall Gammon (Former NFL Player)
Bill James (Baseball researcher)
Gordon Vadakin (Wichita State Bowling Coach)
Jesse Nelson (Winningest high school girls basketball coach)
Emily Bloss Carpenter (Emporia State basketball player)
Tara Holloway (Emporia State basketball player)
Elwood “Bingo” DeMoss (Negro Leagues Baseball player)
George Toma (groundskeeper- Kansas City Royals and Super Bowl)

Of course, Williams’ full coaching career will certainly be noted. However, this award comes from his success as the head coach of the Kansas men’s basketball program, as he led the Jayhawks to four Final Four appearances between 1988 and 2003.

Williams will mostly be remembered for his time in Chapel Hill, but that certainly doesn’t take away from everything he accomplished at Kansas. In just a few months, Williams will join the elite company of individuals who have made an impact on sports in the state of Kansas and overall.
