Top-10 2023 prospect Matas Buzelis has officially announced his decision, one that won’t make fans of the UNC basketball program happy.

Matas Buzelis is not heading to Chapel Hill.

In fact, the top-10 prospect from the Class of 2023 isn’t even heading to a college campus.

Instead, Buzelis decided that he will bypass college, as he’s signed a one-year deal with the G-League Ignite for the 2023-2024 season.

Buzelis, who 247Sports Composite ranks as the No. 6 overall prospect in the Class of 2023, will play out his final season of high school at Sunrise Christian Academy before departing for the G-League in California.

After his season with the G-League is over, the Wolfeboro, New Hampshire native has intentions of entering the NBA Draft right away.

Early on in his recruitment, it appeared as if Buzelis favored the college route. However, as time went on, it became more and more likely that he would elect the professional route, as his final decision isn’t one that will shock anyone who has closely followed his recruitment process.

It’s disappointing for the UNC basketball program for sure, given that Buzelis is a top talent who would have added to the Tar Heels’ already stellar 2023 recruiting class. However, as his decision loomed, all signs pointed to this outcome, as it’s not a decision that will flat-out surprise the programs involved.

As always, the Tar Heels will turn their attention to other prospects in the class that they believe would be good fits in Chapel Hill.
