According to reports, former UNC basketball standout Danny Green is on the move, as he’s included in an NBA Draft night trade.

Danny Green will reportedly once again have a new NBA home.

As part of an NBA Draft night trade, the Philadelphia 76ers have traded Green to the Memphis Grizzlies. The 76ers will package Green with the No. 23 overall pick to acquire DeAnthony Melton from Memphis.

After suffering a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the now 35-year-old was expected to miss most of (if not all of) the 2022-2023 season. With his health in question, this move seems to be one that the 76ers made to find a quality player who can help them win games now.

After suffering the injury, Green stated that he has no intention of retiring. Injuries of this magnitude tend to take a significant amount of time to heal, but the former Tar Heel will not let it stop him from eventually returning to the court.

It is possible that Green won’t even suit up for the Grizzlies at any point. As he’s in the final year of a two-year, 20-million dollar pact, the former Tar Heel could very well end up being a buyout candidate at some point in the near future.

Green is no stranger to change during his professional career. If he eventually suits up for the Grizzlies, it will be the sixth NBA franchise that he’s played for over his 13-year career.

Of course, the goal now for Green is to simply rehab his injury in an effort to get back onto the court as soon as possible.
