It’s never too early to start planning ahead… right?! Reports are surfacing that the UNC basketball program will compete in the 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis.

Yes, we know that the UNC basketball program hasn’t even started its 2022-2023 season yet.

But hey, it’s never bad to look ahead to the future schedule for the program!

As reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported that the Tar Heels are set to compete in the 2023 Battle 4 Atlantis, which annually takes place in the Bahamas. These games will count towards North Carolina’s 2023-2024 non-conference schedule.

Typically held inside the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, this event serves as an early-season test for the programs involved. The tournament usually is held during the week of Thanksgiving, as programs get to see some quality non-conference foes as they look to prepare for their upcoming conference slate.

College programs are able to rotate through non-conference tournaments every four seasons. For example, the Tar Heels are usually selected for some of these major tournaments, such as the Battle 4 Atlantis as well as the Maui Invitational.

The 2023-2024 season will mark as the four-year span for the Tar Heels need to re-enter the Battle 4 Atlantis, as they last appeared in the event back in November 2019. In that event, the UNC basketball program, led by the likes of Garrison Brooks, Cole Anthony, and Armando Bacot, finished third overall after winning two of their three contests.

In this event, the Tar Heels will reportedly be joined by Arkansas, Michigan, Memphis, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Stanford, and Villanova. More information regarding the tournament will be released closer to the date of the event.
