UNC Basketball wasting no time with Class of 2024 recruiting
As college basketball teams are now allowed to make contact with prospects from the Class of 2024, the UNC basketball program is wasting no time doing so.
It was like New Year’s Eve for college coaches on June 14, as they anxiously awaited until the clock struck midnight on June 15.
Why are these programs so fixated on this date? Well, it’s quite simple.
For the first time, college coaches are now officially allowed to make direct contact with prospects from the Class of 2024. As soon as the clock struck midnight, it’s safe to say that coaches around the country were very, very busy throughout the night.
Of course, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have wasted no time getting in contact with some of the top prospects available. As the day has progressed, there have been reports that the Tar Heels have spoken to a handful of top recruits already.
Joe Tipton of On3 has been keeping track of some of the notable players in the class and has documented a list of teams that have already contacted them.
Here’s a look at the players (along with their respective On3 ranking) in who the UNC basketball program is showing interest in:
Tre Johnson- No. 2 overall
Ian Jackson- No. 3 overall
Bryson Tucker- No. 4 overall
Elliot Cadeau- No. 8 overall
Trentyn Flowers- No. 11 overall
Jason Asemota- No. 12 overall
Jamari Phillips- No. 17 overall
Cam Scott- No. 18 overall
James Brown- No. 20 overall
Paul McNeil- No. 22 overall
Of course, there are most likely other players that have heard from the Tar Heels since the beginning of June 15. From what we know from this list, it goes to show that Davis and his staff are going after the top talent available, as they’ve cast a wide net to see if they can lure some of the top Class of 2024 prospects to Chapel Hill.
