In the first year that the new NIL rules have been in place, members of the UNC basketball program have greatly benefitted from them.

We’re a few weeks away from the one-year anniversary of the NIL rules that were put in place by the NCAA.

These rules were adopted in an effort to help student-athletes around the country to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness.

For the UNC basketball program, the 2021-2022 season was certainly one to remember. The Tar Heels made an incredible run to the national championship game, one that certainly increased the popularity of some of the team’s most notable players.

If you need evidence of how much the players have benefitted, just look at this top 10 best-sellings shirts list that BreakingT recently released.

The company has already partnered with over 150 student-athletes and has released over 200 items of merchandise since the NIL rules were put into place. As the brand looks to grow, it’s certain that more Tar Heels gear will be coming soon.

Of the 10 shirts that made the list, four are UNC basketball related, including the top-selling shirt on the site:

No. 1- UNC Basketball: Love, & RJ & Leaky & Manek & Bacot

No. 3- UNC Basketball: The Iron 5

No 6.- UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot and Caleb Love Frame It

No 7. UNC Basketball: Caleb Love Nothing But Love

Playing for the University of North Carolina is prestigious in itself, but when you win with the program, especially on the basketball court, it’s even more special.

These NIL rules are simply life-changing, as they certainly have (and will continue to) make an impact on student-athletes for come. For the Tar Heels, you could make the case that these rules kept the likes of Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, and company in Chapel Hill for at least another season, as they can now earn profit while still working towards their degree.

The hope is that another deep run into the postseason is in the cards for the UNC basketball program during the 2022-2023 season. With the players who are returning to Chapel Hill, you may want to keep an eye out for more gear like these shirts over the next few months!
