Similar to their journey through the Chapel Hill Region, the UNC baseball program finds themselves with their backs against the wall once again.

The start of the Chapel Hill Super Regional did not go as planned for the UNC baseball program, as they dropped Game 1 of their best-of-three series against Arkansas.

Simply put: the Arkansas pitching staff, led by starter Connor Noland, did a tremendous job of stymieing the Tar Heels’ offense.

According to the ESPN broadcast, Noland became the first pitcher all season to hold the Diamond Heels scoreless through six innings. As impressive as this is for Noland, it’s simply bad timing for the Tar Heels.

The game was quiet through four innings, but the Razorbacks got their offense going in the top of the fifth inning. Freshman Peyton Stovall led off the top of the fifth inning with a homer to start up a three-run inning for his team. This was more than enough for Arkansas, as their pitching held the North Carolina offense to just one run.

That run came off the bat of, who else, Vance Honeycutt, who blasted his 25th home run of the season. The freshman now is the single-season home run leader for the UNC baseball program.

Once again, the Diamond Heels find themselves with their backs against the wall, as they have to win on Sunday afternoon to keep their season alive. First-pitch on Sunday afternoon is scheduled at 1:00 PM EST.
